Best Buy Makes Diversity Fun!

My friend Sonia's back in the advertisement limelight again, this time in some of Best Buy's recruitment material. For those of you not interested in reading about how diverse Best Buy is, and because I feel a need to keep reinforcing the incredibly cool fact that I know a professional model, here's the pic:

Sonia and a bunch of overly enthusiastic \

Sonia's the one kneeling in the lower left with the huge smile. I love how frighteningly enthusiastic the people are. Except for the lady on the far left, who is having no part of this whole "I love Best Buy and I'm diverse" thing.

What little faith I had in photos in recruitment material is now gone. I'm not sure if that's a loss or not.

Not a claim everyone can make

I've got a friend who's been in Teen People! For those of you who don't know, one of my old coworkers at Retek, Jeff Lin, is part of PBS's latest reality show, Colonial House (if you look here, you can find him under "Voorhees House"). Well, the magazine did a bit on one of his costars and Jeff (or rather, Jeff's back) is in the background of one of the photos! How nifty is that?

Oh, and for those of you wondering, it's premiering May 17th. Everyone should watch it. After all, how often do you get to see your friends (or even your friends' friends) on TV? Also, the "House" shows have been uniformly fascinating, so you should watch it even if you don't care who the heck Jeff is.

Sure, it's just a $60 stick, but that's not important

My friend Sonia's been doing part-time modelling for a couple years now & the only time I've ever seen any of her work was blink-and-you-missed-it bit as a Best Buy clerk in one of their TV ads. But now fame is hers, because she's featured in Target's weekly ad circular, toting "The FIRM Body Sculpting System 2". Check it out!

$60 stick = best value?she's so happy

Don't go to sleep!!

My friend Brian's in Sapporo, Japan, doing the whole JET thing and he's already discovered Pocari Sweat! But then, his blog can probably explain the whole thing better than I.

Awwww....

With the announcement of a birth comes the inevitable baby pictures. You know you love'em. One warning, though: I wouldn't advise venturing into other areas of growthspurts.com outside of Grace's page--it's rife with obscenely irritating popups.

Amazing Grace!

My friends Dan & Heather had a baby!!! Little Grace popped into this world yesterday & I couldn't be more excited for them.

I started idly browsing the web for some sort of present for the little one and I was reminded of Playsoundz, premier makers of electronica for kids (of all ages, of course). In turn, these guys linked me to Twink, premier maker of toy piano music for kids (again, of all ages). These guys make some fun music. I'm not sure if little kids like it, but I know I do.

(I apologize for the pun in the title. I had to get it out of my system before I inflicted it upon the proud parents.)

The Great Name Famine

Turns out my friend Susanna has started her own business in Austria, an "exhibition management" business called Fresh Concepts. What's notable about this--besides the fact that a friend of mine has her own business--is that she happily stole the name from Macalester's improv group, which in turn stole it from the name ARAMARK gave the salad bar in Macalester's dining hall. Thing is, I never thought it was that good a name, but apparently I am in the minority. Ah, well. Whatever works.
